The team of the Talizi Hair Transplant Center has accomplished a surgery accomplishment of unique volume – 9,688 follicular units (grafts) were previously transplanted in a single 11 hour FUT session. Until now, the highest amount of grafts was previously transplanted at the Hasson and Wong Hair Transplant Center which was 9,668 in a 15 hour single surgical session.

The patient is a 42 year old male, Russian citizen who has been searching for a hair clinic for a very long time. As he knew about our center's experience and expertise in Giga sessions, he decided to travel to Georgia in the winter of 2011 and then passed his first preoperative consultation at the Talizi Hair Transplant Center.
Donor area checked by the computer Dermoscopy showed an average donor area density of 83 follicular units per 1 sq. cm. in the middle of the nape area and 47 follicular units per 1 sq. cm. on the sides. According to above mentioned criteria, the patient could not be considered to be a good candidate for the giga session, but on the other hand, an unusual laxity of the scalp that was detected was the main reason Talizi's director, Akaki Tsilosani, decided to carry out the hair transplant with the record-breaking number of grafts – up to 10,000 follicular units in a single surgical session. In total, 19,360 hairs have been transplanted.
Hair implantation density has now reached 40 follicular units per sq. cm. in the hairline and frontal areas and 27 follicular units per sq. cm in the crown area.
Surgery has started at 11 AM by donor strip extraction – the total area of the strip extracted was 140 sq. cm (5 cm. in widest place). The donor wound closure process passed without any kind of technical problems due to a phenomenally lax donor scalp. Stereomicroscopic preparation of the grafts gave us 9,688 follicular units consisting of 2,528 – 1 hair grafts, 4,648 – 2 hair grafts and 2,512 – three and four hair grafts.
The surgical stuff consisted of two doctors – MD Akaki Tsilosani and MD Eka Kandiashvili, along with 2 quality monitoring managers and twelve surgical assistants – 16 people in total.
The time of the surgery reached 10 hours and 50 minutes, including several 15 minutes breaks for the patient to rest and have a lunch. Although it was hard to pass the barrier of 10,000 grafts, the world record of the highest amount of grafts transplanted for this moment has been improved by more than five hundred grafts and is now – 9,688 follicular units. The accomplishment of such giga sessions is not only unachievable but also hardly imaginable for most clinics around the world.
